HAMBURGER VEGETABLE SOUP 
1 lb. hamburger
1 c. chopped onion
1 c. diced potatoes
1 c. sliced carrots
1 c. shredded cabbage
1 c. sliced celery
4 c. tomatoes
1/4 c. rice
3 c. water
4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. basil
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 bay leaf

Cook ground beef and onions together until meat is lightly browned. Drain off excess fat, add all remaining ingredients then bring mixture to a boil. Cover and simmer for 1 hour before serving.
