APPLE KUCHEN 
CAKE:

1 pkg. dry yeast
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. hot milk
1 egg, beaten
2 1/2 c. flour
3 c. apples (not necessary to peel) (slice in 1/4 inch thick slices)

TOPPING:

1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. butter, soft

CAKE: Soften yeast in 2 tablespoon warm water; set aside. Combine butter, sugar and salt. Add hot milk, mix and let cool to lukewarm. Then mix in 1 egg and yeast; gradually add flour. Let rise until double in size (45 to 60 minutes). Spread or pat into 9 x 13 inch greased pan. Arrange and press apples into dough.

TOPPING: Combine sugar, cinnamon and butter; mix well. Spread all but 2 tablespoons over apples, cover. Let rise until light, (approximately 30 minutes). Bake at 375 degrees 20 to 25 minutes or less. Blend 1 egg yolk and 1/3 cup light cream; pour over cake, bake 15 minutes more. Sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons of topping. Eat warm. Makes 1 (9 x 13 inch) cake.

My mother is German and makes a kuchen much like this one, only for the topping at the end she adds cinnamon and raisins to the cream and egg.
