I used this recipe in My Foods II clases for years. The variations we used all had canned fruit. The fruit and cake combinations the class used were Peaches and spice cake, cherries and white cake, pears and chocolate cake, pineapple chunks and yellow cake and the apple with yellow cake. The kuchens became class favorites for the holidays. They loved them!

I have used this recipe since it showed up on the back of the Betty Crocker yellow cake mix, it definitely was over 20 years ago. My boys now 45 and 43 still love it and I have to fix it every time they visit us. I usually skip most of the sugar and the cinnamon, since it would be to sweet for us.

This is an old tried and true recipe. I made it for the first time in 1971! My family loved it. I don't make it often because it's pretty calorie dense, but it makes a lovely warm dessert.
