“DUTCH APPLE KUCHEN CAKE” IS IN:

DUTCH APPLE KUCHEN CAKE 
3 1/2 to 4 cups sliced, peeled apples
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3 tablespoons melted butter

Topping:

Combine sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon; mix well and set aside.

Batter:

Into a bowl sift:

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar

With a pastry blender, cut in:

1/4 cup shortening or butter

until mixture resembles corn meal. Stir in:

1 egg

that has been beaten with:

1/4 cup milk

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Spread batter in a greased 12x8x2-inch baking pan.

Top with apples or other fruit. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture, then melted butter.

Bake for about 45 minutes or til golden. Glaze with:

1/3 cup currant or apricot jelly
1 tbsp. hot water

As soon as cake is removed from oven, brush with jelly glaze.
