PERFECT WHITE LOAF BREAD | |
5 3/4 to 6 1/4 c. all-purpose flour 1 pkg. active yeast 2 1/4 c. milk 2 tbsp. sugar 1 tbsp. shortening 2 tsp. salt Combine 2 1/2 cups of the flour and the yeast. Heat milk, sugar, shortening and salt just until shortening melts. Beat with mixer and add yeast. Knead 8 to 10 minutes. Shape into ball. Place dough into a butter bowl. Let rise about 1 1/4 hours. After rising shape into loaves by rolling into 12 x 8 inch rectangle, start rolling up to rectangle. Be sure to seal each turn with fingertips or edge of hand. When the roll is finished by sure to close both ends. Mash down the ends with sides of hand and fold under the loaf. Place into 2 (8 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch) loaf pans. Bake in 375 degree oven. TIP: Place dough in oven with a pan of hot water under the dough. It will rise better. |
