GORDON'S CORNBREAD 
1 c. yellow corn meal
Scant 1/2 c. flour
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 to 1 1/2 c. milk
3 tbsp. bacon fat or shortening

Before beginning place bacon fat in a 10 inch skillet and put to heat in a 450 degree oven. Heat to smoking.

Sift dry ingredients 4 times so thoroughly mixed. Beat eggs and milk together. Stir in dry ingredients.

Add hot fat and stir in immediately. Pour into hot skillet and bake for 12-15 minutes until brown on top.
