NORMA HAMILL COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 1/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. dark syrup or molasses
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
4 c. oats
1 1/4 c. sugar
4 eggs
3 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1-2 c. pecans

Mix shortening, sugars, eggs and syrup or molasses. Sift and stir in flour, soda, salt, cinnamon and baking powder. Then add oats and nuts. Bake about 8 minutes at 400 degrees. DO NOT OVERCOOK! "I add anything from chocolate chips, coconut, raisins, etc. At Christmas, I use a large package of fruit mix and it makes pretty Christmas cookies. Of course, always garnish tops with extra nuts and a maraschino cherry for love."
