RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. plus 1 tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 c. sour milk
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda

(To make milk sour, add in 1 teaspoon vinegar to milk.) Cream together shortening, sugar and eggs. Mix together dry ingredients and add milk alternately to cream mixture. Add food coloring and vanilla. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook for 30 minutes.
