Brown hamburger with onions and put it on the bottom, then add a package of mixed veggies, then the tater tots and topped off with soup sour cream mixture & cheese. It still tastes great but you feel better with some veggies added.

I tried it all 3 ways tater tots, shreds, and cubed. amazingly they all were great. and my family loved them all. thanks for the additional ideas Jeanna, it may not be qualified to take the Tater Tot Casserole name but who cares, its very nice to see a different variation to the recipe. That's what cooking is all about twisting it up.

I have always made this recipe by browning and draining the hamburger first. I add one, sometimes two cans of cream of mushroom, plus a small can of mushroom pieces plus salt and pepper. Then top with the tater tots and a bunch of shredded cheddar on top. Always very tasty.

Simon, In the states Tater Tots are found in frozen food isle. A staple for most anyone on our side of the big pond. New Englanders like this casserole with more potatoes the better, southerners quick and easy, mid west (they usually like more cheese), and west coast always tries to put vegetables in. Hope you can find them at the grocers next time. I don't think they would stay frozen for the trip to you???
