OVERNIGHT CABBAGE SLAW | |
1 med.-lg. head cabbage 1 lg. onion (I prefer red because it's not as strong) 3/4 c. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. dry mustard 1 c. vinegar 1 tsp. celery seed 3/4 c. salad oil Coarsely chop 1 head of cabbage. In a large bowl alternate a layer of cabbage with a layer of onion sliced and separated (cabbage, onion, cabbage, onion). Pour 3/4 cup of sugar over all. In a pan bring to a boil the vinegar, salt, celery and dry mustard. Add 3/4 cup salad oil to the hot mixture after removing from heat and stir. Pour mixture over cabbage and onions. Cover. Refrigerate and stir often. Best if prepared a day ahead. |
