OLD FASHIONED BREAD PUDDING
Kids love this! Our mom made it for us growing up in the 30's and 40's and it was a huge hit. It tastes wonderful!

2-3 cups of bread and/or biscuits (more or less)
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
milk (enough to make a thick batter)

Note: Use the bread and biscuits saved from a week's worth of cooking.

Break all the crumbs up in a large bowl. Add eggs and sugar, cinnamon and vanilla.

Begin to mix in milk until you have a very thick cake-like batter. Spoon mixture into a well buttered 8x8-inch square pan.

Bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes.

Cool, then cut into squares.

Thank you so much. This is the one I lost from my father's childhood. His mom never wasted anything so bread and rice leftovers were pudding later. He is 85 this year and I will surprise him tomorrow night with this. Regina

I have this in the oven now. My mom used to make this - and added raisins. I added some flaked coconut and chopped pecans. Can hardly wait for this to finish...

Oh! My! Gosh!... this should be a 10 stars! I added flaked coconut, pecan pieces... out of this world. I cut when it was still warm and topped with vanilla ice cream... THIS IS A KEEPER... I am going to try adding some raisins and maybe some applesauce next time - that should make it a CROSS between a moist apple cake and a pie... please - try this!

Sorry to keep putting reviews in on this - but I keep making changes each time - and this is amazing. Today, I fixed this using leftover sour dough biscuits. I also added 1/2 c. pecans, flaked coconut, 1/2 pk. (dry) French Vanilla pudding - then finished off with a streusel topping... OH MY!... I am going to make several versions of this and give for Christmas gifts - along with copies of this original recipe...

This is wonderful! My grandmother used to make it and add chocolate. Yum. She used biscuits left from breakfast, and made it for dessert.

I am not a fan of bread pudding, but I LOVE this! More like a cake. I added a drizzle of molasses to the mix (approx. 1 tbsp.). So good! Warm w/ vanilla ice cream would be fantastic!

I'm hoping this is the lost recipe my mom made for us as kids (I'm 59). She poured her in a Bundt pan and I remember she put brown sugar in the bottom before the mixture when in. Anyone heard of that? Can't wait to try. I've been looking for years and years! Thank you

Lucy, Lucy, Lucy. I have literally eaten bread pudding all over this world. But this my friend makes the rest of them seem like it was amateur night at cooking school. I did add some raisins I plumped up in a bit of wine. That is the only thing I changed or ever would change. Thanks for sharing this awesome and simple recipe!!

My mother used to use stale biscuits to make the best bread pudding. She didn't put any kind of spice in it. It was delicious!

Wow! Made the recipe with leftover home baked bread, added one mashed banana and 1/2 cup raisins just to play around with it. Marvelous! Have shared this with others and they love it, too.

I use day old blueberry bagels on the discount rack from my grocery store in this recipe. So good. Better than any I've had in restaurants before.

Just took this out of the oven! It is so good. I used leftover bread from the Italian restaurant and added frozen blueberries! I will definitely make this again.

Sorry - for yet another idea (will do this week).. Tear up 2 cups - doughnuts or leftover cake pieces... then go from there - with your own additions/leftovers. This HAS to be my favorite recipe - as it can constantly upgrade/change to hearts content.
