HERMAN'S COFFEE CAKE 
"HERMAN'S STARTER":

1 pkg. dry yeast
2 c. lukewarm water
2 c. flour

Beat until smooth - cover at room temperature for 48 hours. Use 1 cup for feeding and 1 cup for a friend.

SURVIVAL:

Feed Herman on the 1st and 5th day - 1 cup flour, 1 cup milk, 1/2 cup sugar.

Beat him gently every day. Bake on the 6th day - no later than the 10th day.

6TH DAY:

Take 2 cups Herman, 1 cup sugar, 2 cups flour, 2/3 cup cooking oil, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2 eggs and 2 teaspoons baking powder.

Mix and pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 pan, sprinkle with topping.

TOPPING:

2 tbsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. butter
1 tbsp. flour
1 c. brown sugar

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

GLAZE:

1/4 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. milk

Boil for 5 minutes and pour over hot cake.

Two cups of "Herman" left - 1 for a friend, 1 for you!
