HEDDA'S COOKIES 
1 c. white sugar
1 c. shortening (Crisco)
1 egg
1 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. flour
2 c. coconut
3/4 c. chopped nuts (pecans)

Cream together sugar, shortening, egg and extracts. Add flour, salt and mix well. Fold in coconut and nuts. Roll into 1-inch balls and flatten with fork on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes until golden around edges. Makes 5 dozen.
