Can I use oat milk instead of regular milk in this dream whip frosting recipe?

I have been trying to find the Dream Whip white icing my deceased mother-in-law used to make to icing my husbands birthday cake. Does this icing have an almost marshmallow consistency? I know it came in a box and she stated it was called Dream Whip. She would icing a delis food cake with this icing. It was very white and had a marshmallow consistency and taste. Is this the Dream Whip she spoke of? I would love to make it for my husband since it was his favorite his mother made!

I'm sure your comment is old. But but in case you never figured it out, you're talking about 7 minute frosting.

I too found this recipe in a small cut-up cake paperback (eg bunny or other shapes). It is the perfect frosting for cut cakes where you have crumbly edges to cover. For most cakes you will need 2 batches of frosting. It's very forgiving :)

I add 1 1/2 cup of heavy cream instead of regular milk which makes the frosting thicker and creamier!! Very Good!!

I have used this frosting many times. Wondering how diabetic friendly is it. Should I be looking for instant puddings that are sugar free?

Love this for frosting or filling any time of the year but especially for summer cakes! Always well received.

Dream whip used to come in a 4 pack, and it had the recipe on it, now if you can find it, it only comes in a 2 pack. I found this 45 years ago. Then you mixed the dream whip & 1/2 c. milk till thick, then the pudding with 1 1/2 c. milk, just till slighty thick, and mixed them together. Now the pudding is in samller boxes so I only use 1 c. milk

I just box a box of Dream Whip last time I was at Safeway, and it is a four pack.

Has anyone substituted cool whip for the whipped dream whip, we love this recipe but I have some cool whipped Ready thawed.

Used this frosting on a chocolate cake to go along with my husband to his meeting at church. As far as he was concerned it was the best ever!! But I am wondering how long it will keep in the fridge?

I had no idea this was so popular... it has been the only icing my family has used for for at least 50 years dating back to when my Mother was a little a girl, and her Mother fixed it... no clue if it goes back even further. I have never in my life met anyone else that has ever even heard of it.

I too, have used this recipe for years. I use the coconut pudding and then add grated fresh coconut on top. Yummy!

Oh my goodness... stop... DON'T STOP DON'T STOP. LOL. THIS sounds absolutely AMAZING. I NEVER considered coconut. I love coconut so that's funny. I'm using it as I attempt to recreate a recipe my mom used to make with pistachio pudding and dream whip filling in a yellow cake roll. She passed when I was 17 (I just turned 45) so I never thought to get her recipes back then. I'm so excited n a lil anxious about making this.

I found this recipe on the box of Dream Whip about 25 years ago and tried it and have loved it ever since.

My good friend Kristal told me about this icing/topping. She has used it for over 40 years and I have used it for over 30 years. It's the best! People ask about it all the time.

I make ice cream cakes for birthday and use this as the frosting in whatever pudding flavor they want. I just make two 8 inch layers of cake and mold store bought ice the same size. The kids have been very creative on the flavors and they all work!! This frosting freezes on the cake very well.

I love this recipe. I like to use butterscotch instant pudding for a chocolate cake, which I then top willy-nilly with semisweet chocolate chips.

My Grandfather told me this recipe 30 years ago. People also chase me down for this recipe but I never see anyone else use it. My Sister-in-law had me use this on her chocolate wedding cake and my nephew calls me Auntie Genius because of this recipe. Even people who don`t like cake LOVE this.
