WHIPPED CREAM FROSTING
1 c. whipping cream
Dash of salt
Rounded 1/3 c. flour, sifted
1 c. butter, soft
1 c. sifted confectioners' sugar, 2 for a stiffer frosting
2 tsp. vanilla

Mix cream, flour and salt until lumps are dissolved. Cook over medium heat while stirring continually with a wood spoon. Cook this mixture until thickened and it forms a paste like ball which pulls away from the sides of the pan easily. Allow the paste mixture to cool.

After the paste is cooled, whip. Add the butter and whip together. Add sugar and continue whipping. Add the vanilla and beat well.

This is a good frosting for those who don't like too sweet frosting. In hot, humid weather this frosting tends to be too soft when beating. It will require refrigeration if not to be too soft.

Whipped Cream Frosting

I have made a similar frosting for many years but it was always too dense. I creamed the butter and sugar, then whipped in the paste. What a difference whipping the paste first makes! This was so light, creamy, and not too sweet. I love it, thank you.

I felt the recipe had too much butter. I doubled it, and only used the 1 cup and still thought it was too buttery tasting. I'd suggest adding 1-2 sticks of butter, then all the sugar, then butter to taste. I think it will work okay, but I didn't test it.

I dont know how much you think a cup of butter is Dan, but a cup of butter is two sticks of butter.

I love this frosting! Dont be scared of the "paste ball" step, this frosting is hard to mess up. I always use 1-1/2 cups sugar... as I think 1 c. is boring and 2 c. is unnecessary. I pipe it high on top of semi-sweet chocolate cupcakes. The combination is a very pretty dessert that is not overwhelmingly sweet. Enjoy!

I have always made butter-cream frosting and plain ol' whipped cream frosting, and wished I could combine the two. This is what I have been looking for! It is my new favorite and it is very easy. Thank you.

I made this frosting and it was easy and just what I was looking for. I chopped in a blender white chocolate chips and added to the cake after frosting. I'd been looking for a frosting like this, since buying a cake made by a bakery two years ago. Does anyone know if you can turn this into a chocolate frosting by just adding cocoa?
Thank you

thought this was a great recipe. Dan mentioned below he thought it was too much butter? I cup is ONLY 2 sticks so sounds like you were adding too much! Know your amounts people :)

The only way you can mess this recipe up is to be in a hurry and not let the paste be cool when you add the butter.

I haven't made this yet, but I was wondering how well this frosting worked for decorating cakes? I have been looking for something similar to whipped frosting that stores use to decorate cakes and wondered how this compared? I'm not a fan of really sweet frosting so this one sounds great. Thanks!

This was delicious frosting. I actually don't like frosting. I don't like the sugary kind of frosting. This was delicious! I licked all of the frosting off before eating the cupcake. I cannot rave about this frosting enough!!!!

This frosting is simple to make and delicious! I have been looking for a frosting that isn't as sweet as buttercream and this is it! I made a chocolate layer cake with plain whipped cream mixed with vanilla pudding for the centre and then topped it with this frosting and it was a big hit! I will absolutely use this recipe again!

Everyone who's dumping on Dan- hes saying he doubled the recipe except the butter and kept to 1 cup. I followed his lead and its amazing. Read women... Read.

I love this frosting! I have made numerous frostings and I like this one when my cupcake filling is sweet (like caramel) you can also add nuts which makes it alot better.

Best. Frosting. EVER! It was so delicious, it almost tasted better than the cake.

1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar was perfect.

Thank you for the fabulous recipe!
