I am a gramma whose gramma made this pie for dinner every night! Truly comfort food to my family. my recipe calls for 1/3 c. flour, 2/3 c. sugar, fill with milk, sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg, dot with butter and bake. Hopefully my children and grandchildren will continue to associate this pie with love.

I hope this is the recipe I have been looking for. My Grandma Mary would always make me a milk pie if there was left over crust just for me. I could never find one as she would just pour the milk in the crust, sprinkle sugar and flour in, mix all the ingredients gently in the pie crust with a dainty thin "spatula" and then dot with butter and bake in her coal cookstove. She never measured with any of her recipes. I can not wait to try this! You must know that its been about 40 if not 45 years since I had this type of pie. Over the years I have been trying to perfect / find so many of her recipes because she never measured anything. It has been so very hard. Thank you so much!! God Bless.

Almost identical to the recipe from my Nana. We just do a ratio of 1 flour to 3 sugar... that way it can be a big pie, or a little one with dough scraps. We mix in the milk with our fingers... until it forms a paste... then we add more milk,'butter pats and cinnamon. Super yummy... and reminds me of her.

My grandfather used to make this pie for me with the leftover dough from other pies he'd made. It was only for me and always made me feel so special. I still have the mini-pie tins he used, but didn't have a recipe. So glad I found this! Now I can make it for my kids. Thanks!

Exactly, Brenda! My grandmother did the same thing! The amount of pie dough "left over" dictated the size of the pie, so measurements were never exact. She never had a recipe - just knew how much of everything would make it right. Can't wait to try this, except I know she never used brown sugar. Ours was all white sugar, and dotted with butter and cinnamon before baking.

My grandmother used to make this for us all the time. She called it "poor mans pie". I know she only used white sugar in hers. I will be trying this today. It brings back such great memories.

Was this pie also called 'Sweet Milk Pie'? My former mother in law made it when her children were growing up, and they loved it. However, the m-i-l would not share the recipe with me.

I haven't tried this recipe yet but my cousin recommended it. Her grandmother made it and all the kids loved it. Will bake one today.

I simply looooove milk pie. My granny cooked it all the time. My granny is 93 and I still go over to her house to eat. As a matter of fact, I am going tomorrow. The only different thing my granny does is that she puts the dough in the sauce and lets it boil all the way through. I have the recipe by it doesn't taste the same when I do it. Chicago is not used to this dessert.

I can't believe I found this recipe! My PawPaw Sup used to bake this pie for my birthday every Spring, it was "My milk pie"! I had to share it, although I didn't want to. PawPaw Sup passed away about 6 years ago, and I can't wait to taste this when I bake it today. Thanks for sharing this recipe. I hope it make it a favorite for my children.
