CHINESE PEPPER STEAK
1.5 lb. sirloin steak, sliced thinly
2 green bell peppers, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 yellow onion, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 can diced tomatoes, drained
2 cups water
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tbsp. granulated sugar
2 tbsp. corn starch
4 tbsp. soy sauce

Heat oil in a large skillet until very hot. Add the meat and stir-fry until nicely browned. Add the onion, water, garlic salt, and ginger. Bring mixture to a boil, cover and cook for about 5 minutes. Add the bell peppers, cover, and cook about 5 more minutes, or until the peppers are tender. Add the tomatoes.

Combine the sugar, corn starch, and soy sauce in a bowl and whisk together until well combined. Add this mixture to the meat and pepper mixture and bring to a boil. Continue to cool, uncovered, until the sauce thickens.

Serve over steamed rice.

I have not tried this yet, but find the tomatoes a strange addition! I will certainly keep this for the future since the reviews are so great~

I just read this recipe and I thought the same exact thing that Kathy did. I have eaten pepper steak in Chinese restaurants for years and it's one of my favorite dishes, Chinese food has been my favorite food since I was 2 and a half! But there was never any tomatoes in it. Just green peppers, onion soy sauce and the steak.

Wonderful!! I was a bit skeptical about the simplicity of the recipe but this was the best pepper steak I've ever had! It taste better than the local Chinese place! I will make this all the time now. Thanks for this one!!

Fantastic dish! I simmered the sauce without the tomatoes for 2 hours and the meat was so tender you could cut it with a fork. I served it over brown rice, a very healthy meal. My husband always adds more soy, but it wasn't needed, perfect amount in the thickening! definitely will be a repeat at our house!

Super! This recipe was awesome. Even my two year old was licking his fingers. I do not have the luxury for Chinese takeout here in Germany. So this recipe hit the spot. It made my family and I feel like we were back in the States on a Friday night. Bless you for this recipe. I wonder if you have other recipes...I would love to have them.
