CRISPY ORANGE BEEF
For Stewed Meat:

1 lb stew beef
flour (for dredging)
cooking oil (to sauté meat)
dash of salt and pepper

Sauce:

1 tablespoon cooking oil
1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon flour
juice of 1 orange
zest of half an orange
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
pepper, to taste

To prepare meat:

Season stew meat very lightly with salt and pepper and lightly toss in flour. Shake off excess flour. Coat a shallow pan with cooking oil and gently pan fry stew meat.

Drain meat and set aside.

To prepare the sauce:

Add cooking oil to sauce pan and gently cook garlic. Add flour to garlic and oil; cook to remove the uncooked flour taste. It will look pasty at first.

Stir in soy sauce and teriyaki sauce, whisking to prevent lumps. Add orange zest, orange juice, pepper, and all sugars.

Allow sauce to come to a boil and it will thicken. Cook to desired consistency. Toss stew meat in enough of the sauce just to coat it. Serve over rice.

This was very tasty! I sauteed mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers separately and added them when I tossed the meat in the sauce. The one quibble I have is that it did not come out crispy, and I followed the recipe very closely. We still liked it, though!

great recipe.. too much sauce. i agree it's enough for 2 lbs of meat. i also sauteed onions and bell peppers and added them to the meat after i had mixed the meat with the sauce. i will definitely make this again!

This was one of the best meals ever! The only thing I did different was make my own Teriyaki sauce because I didn't have any. I didn't use the orange zest and I used more OJ then called for. I also sliced the beef very fine and cooked it extra crispy. Turned out awesome. My husband LOVED it too.

This recipe was really good after some minor changes I made. I used cornstarch to thicken the sauce instead of flour. I also added 1 tsp. red pepper flakes to give it a nice little kick. The juice of one orange was plenty for my liking, so I decided to not use any zest. That's a personal call though. There was enough sauce that you could have used 2 lbs. of meat, which I will do next time! I stir fried a bag of mixed oriental veggies (carrots, snow peas & broccoli) and added it when the meat and sauce were done cooking, and it was an awesome addition.

Use low sodium soy and teriyaki, the recipe came out a bit salty. Use sweet orange juice, not the juice from the oranges. Otherwise, a very easy, relatively quick, but very unique dinner.
