I don't think Jello comes in 4oz. packages. They are 3 oz. not sure if you made a mistake when you wrote recipe???

I think jello was once sold in 4oz boxes... I could be wrong. It wouldn't surprise me, all the packages are getting smaller.

 Barb greenan (Illinois) says:
yes. jello did come in 4 oz. pkgs. for years and years.
just like all 15 oz. cans of vegetables, etc. were all 16 oz. Bob is right, EVERYTHING we buy has gotten smaller.
wouldn't it have been easier just to charge us a few cents more for the old sizes?

We have made this for years. We use 1 lg. Box of jello - usually lime - use only 1 cup of hot water for the mix. Prepare a lemon cake as directed - when cool- poke holes into cake and pour lime jello into it and put into fridge. And enjoy!!!!!!

I think I wound up inventing a still defferent version. Was sure I made a mistake when AFTER I had prepped the Jello I read the comments. Oops! I used what was in the house. I baked the lemon cake according to the box. I used 3 oz. of lemon jello with the 1 cup boiling and 1/2 cup cold water and poured that into the poke holes. I decided I must have already ruined it and then not having any lemon juice, I mixed 1 cup powdered sugar with approx 3 tsp. water, just enough to spread it over the still warm cake. I was eating it with Cool Whip on top an hour later. NOT ruined. Yum!

I get an extra package of the same flavor of Jello and pour the powder into the Cool Whip, fold it in, and spread on top of cake.

For the topping, I like to mix a couple of small containers of strawberry yogurt into the Cool Whip. Spread it onto cooled cake and top with fresh strawberry slices.

FOR FLAVORED FROSTING:

Any pack of Kool Aid folded into 3 c. of whipped cream or cool whip is great. Top cake with it.

This is such an easy recipe! We made it at Christmastime with a little twist - we used one pkg lime jello and one pkg strawberry daquari jello mixed separately. Poured about 1/2 of each flavor in a patchwork pattern over the cake. Everyone loved it!

My family has been using this recipe in our cafe' for years. We also use orange jello and put mandrin oranges in the cool whip! AWESOME We do cherry and strawberry banana as well with the fresh fruit added to the cool whip. I am going to try adding the jello mix to the cool whip next time and see how that turns out sounds really good. Thanks for all the ideas!!

I have baked this cake for many years. when time to put the cool whip on I mix a small box of instant pudding in the cool whip, a flavor that will complement the jello that was used.
very good to the last crumb.

My mother made this for years, mixing crushed drained pineapple with the cool whip for frosting. While it was never my favorite, my brothers and now my children love it, and it's always a crowd pleaser at a large gathering.
