EASY HAM AND BEAN SOUP 
2 cups 100% milk
2 cups canned Navy, baby lima or Great Northern beans
1 cup country style cured ham, cubed or chopped
1 cup chopped onions
5 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp. butter or olive oil
1/2 tsp. black pepper
pinch of sea salt (or to taste)
1 tbsp. chopped fresh Italian parsley

Heat milk and stir in beans. Check the label on the can and do not drain and wash the beans if there are no chemical additives (or simply use organic beans). You can also cook your own dried beans, which is quicker if you have a pressure cooker).

In a large saucepan with olive oil or butter, combine ham, chopped onion and garlic and sauté for 5 minutes on medium heat, or until onions are translucent. Add milk and remaining ingredients and heat for 20 minutes or so.

Taste and adjust seasonings and serve.
