ORANGE LAYER CAKE 
3 1/8 c. flour
2 1/2 c. sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1/4-1/2 tsp. baking soda
Grated rind of 2 oranges
3/4 c. shortening (Crisco)
1 1/2 c. liquid (3/4 c. water or milk & 3/4 c. orange juice)
3/4 c. unbeaten eggs
2 tsp. (pinch) of salt

Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Cream shortening, sugar, orange rind and unstrained orange juice and unbeaten eggs. Add flour mixture to shortening, orange mixture and beat well. Pour into 2 floured or greased pans. Bake about 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

Mix 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of orange juice and pour over cake before putting filling on cake.

FILLING:

1 1/2 c. sugar
Grated rind of 2 oranges
3 1/2 tbsp. flour
1/2 c. orange juice
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 1/2 tbsp. butter

Combine sugar, flour, rind, juice and eggs. Cook until thick. Spread on cake.
