SCALLOPED POTATOES WITH CHEESE 
4 med. potatoes, about 1 1/2 lb.
1 clove garlic, cut into halves
1 tsp. butter
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 c. shredded Grayere cheese
2 eggs
1 2/3 c. half and half
1 tbsp. butter

Cut potatoes into enough thin slices to measure about 4 cups. Rub 10 x 6 x 1 1/2 inch baking dish with garlic clove and brush with 1 teaspoon butter. Arrange potatoes in 3 layers, sprinkling each layer with 1/3 of salt, nutmeg, pepper, and cheese.

Beat eggs and half and half; pour over potato slices. Dot with 1 tablespoon butter. Cook uncovered in 350 degree oven until potatoes are tender and top is golden brown, about 1 hour.
