CHOCOLATE CREAM CHEESE BARS | |
1/2 c. butter 1 oz. (1 square) unsweetened chocolate 1 c. sifted flour 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 2 eggs, beaten 1 tsp. vanilla 3/4 c. chopped walnuts or pecans 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened 1/4 c. butter 1/2 c. sugar 2 tbsp. flour 1 egg, beaten 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1/4 c. chopped walnuts or pecans Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine 1/2 cup butter and chocolate in a 2 quart saucepan. Cook over low heat until melted. Stir until smooth. Remove from heat; cool to room temperature. Sift 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir dry ingredients into cooled chocolate mixture; mix well. Add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla, blend well. Stir in 3/4 cup nuts. Spread batter into a well greased 13"x9"x2" baking pan. Combine cream cheese and 1/4 cup butter in a bowl. Beat until smooth and creamy, using electric mixer at medium speed. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons flour, and gradually add to the cheese mixture, beating well. Beat in 1 egg and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Spread over chocolate batter. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup chopped nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until no imprint remains when lightly touched with finger. Cool in pan on rack. Cut into 3"x1" bars. Makes 39. |
