APPLESAUCE BREAD PUDDING 
8 slices dry bread
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. applesauce for top
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. broken walnuts
2 1/2 c. applesauce
2 c. milk
Scraping of whole nutmeg
Cinnamon sugar for sprinkling on top

Arrange 4 slices of bread in a greased 9" baking dish. Sprinkle on raisins, cinnamon, nuts and half the sugar. Spread 2 cups of applesauce on top. Cover with remaining 4 slices of bread. Mix together eggs, milk, vanilla and remaining sugar and pour over bread. Top with remaining 1/2 cup applesauce, a scraping of nutmeg (or several dashes of ground nutmeg). Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Serves 8.
