Use Everclear, not vodka!! Makes shots go farther!!
 #3432
 ZC replies:
Using everclear can be DANGEROUS if people aren't very responsible about how many shots to have. Stick to vodka. You wanna get plastered, not alcohol poisoning.
 #11496
 Dawn replies:
It depends on how much you use for each shot. Remember they are supposed to be done all at once.

 Speedlover (Maine) replies:
I make 200 Jellos at a time. I mix it up with good vodka and Malibu together, Black Cherry Jello. Love to experiment. Great for Races, cuz you don't have to keep going... and your nails grow strong. Have fun with them!

 Veronica replies:
I've used Everclear in the jello shots. I only use 1/4 cup per box. If you use too much they will not set. I do let everyone know that the jello shots have Everclear; everyone is an adult.
 #6929
 Bonnie replies:
Do Not Use Everclear. Everclear is just a manslaughter charge waiting to happen. Unfortunately, adults - after they've consumed a few shots, are for the most part very foolish as to the decisions they make.... It will always come back to the host or the person who made the shots..... Not worth it.

 Kim replies:
I use everclear with everything. I have use everclear with jello shot and also PJ, It dont take long to feel good. But you really have to be careful not to have too much everclear in your jello.
 #15266
 Tom replies:
Everclear should only be allowed with a special permit and you certainly don't want to drink it in a way that covers it's potency. I've almost died on that stuff once and never again will I touch it.
 #21048
 Trina (Ohio) replies:
What is everclear?
 #21056
 Martha (United States) replies:
Trina, Everclear is worse than Vodka or even Gin or even hotshots. Everclear is a man or woman killer. Trust me I know, please don't mess with it.
 #21104
 Chris (Louisiana) replies:
Everclear is basically moonshine, white lightening (the legal commercially packaged type) - I personally do not like it in any form or mixed with anything. Back in the day, I had a boyfriend who kept a pint in his car. He poured it in his carburetor when the car would not start. That should tell you something. Can be pretty dangerous if you don't extremely limit your guests' intake. Why worry, just use rum or vodka (regular or flavored).

 NYCco (Texas) replies:
Everclear - A distilled alcoholic beverage consisting only of corn-derived alcohol and water.

Country of origin - United States

Alcohol by volume - 95% or 75.5%

Proof - 190 or 151

190-proof Everclear is legally a neutral grain spirit in the United States.

Everclear is the brand name of a colorless, unflavored, distilled beverage bottled at two different high strengths: 151-proof and 190-proof, meaning respectively 75.5% and 95% alcohol by volume. It is distilled by Luxco (formerly the David Sherman Company).

Everclear is distilled from corn (maize) and is nearly identical in taste to fine-grade unflavored vodka, although it contains more alcohol. Both Everclear and fine-grade vodka are very low in congeners, which are agents that develop during fermentation or are added later and that lend flavor and color to whiskeys and other liquors.

DO NOT USE IT FOR JELLO SHOTS. YOU CAN GET ALCOHOL POISONING.

Everclear is dangerous if used in an inappropriate manner, but I have found that Apple Pie (apple and cinnamon flavored mixed everclear beverage) is one of the best drinks I have ever had, and makes a darn good jello shot.

 Tonya (Louisiana) replies:
Amanda spoke of Apple Pie. I REALLY need the recipe for this drink. I agree that this is the best thing I have ever had!! I really want to know how to make it. If anyone can help, Please and Thank You!!

 Tom (Maryland) replies:

6 cups sugar
6 cinnamon sticks
1 fifth of vodka or everclear

Bring apple juice and cider to a low boil, add sugar and cinnamon sticks, bring heat down and let simmer for 30 minutes.

LACY'S APPLE PIE (BEVERAGE)

Apple Pie is delicious!

This a super easy recipe that is great for tailgating and fall get-togethers. As the name implies it tastes just like "Apple Pie"

What you will need...
1 1/2 gallons apple juice from bottle or concentrate
1 gallon apple cider
1 (750 ml.) Everclear (or Clear high proof liquor like Bacardi 151)
8 cinnamon sticks
4 cups sugar
4 cups brown sugar

How to make...
Combine apple juice, cider, cinnamon sticks and sugars in a large pot and bring to a boil on the stove. Simmer 15 to 30 minutes until all the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Remove cinnamon sticks. Stir in you alcohol, bottle (empty liquor bottles work great) and chill in refrigerator until ready to serve!

 Janey (Texas) replies:
Another good jello shot is using Amaretto and Orange Jello, that tastes great! Also, used Hot Damm liquor with cherry jello it was different and everyone at one of my parties loved it. Tequila with Lime Jello, tastes like a Margarita shot! I use Everclear at times, but sparingly - too potent. Sam's Club sells the small condiment cups w/lids - makes great jello shot containers - last forever, lots of them in the box.
 #22449
 Danielle (New Hampshire) replies:
Where in the world do you buy everclear???? Cannot find it in any alcohol store where I live.....
 #22547
 Austin (North Carolina) replies:
Everclear and other brands of grain alcohol are illegal to sell in many states, so for those of you having problems finding it you may want to research your respective states' laws. I would stick to vodka as it always seems to work great. If Everclear is a must then just use some basic math to make the alcohol content about equivalent (80 to 100 proof vodka compared with 190 proof grain alcohol). Use too much alcohol and the jello will not set. Hope this helps, be safe!
 #23618
 Alta (Ohio) replies:
I have been trying to find everclear and it is illegal in Ohio. They can not sell it here any where in Ohio..
 #23799
 Teresa (Ohio) replies:
You can buy Everclear in West Virginia and Florida.
 #24485
 Sharon (Washington) replies:
I'm in Washington state and drive over to Montana for Everclear. I use it to make Lemoncello and Kahlua. It can be very dangerous, thus the liquor stores limit how much they will sell you at one time.
 #23307
 Vickie (Colorado) replies:
Everclear is one step away from white lightin' !! It's 190 proof. Some liquor stores carry it and some don't due to it being so high of an alcohol content..
 #24355
 Shar (Louisiana) replies:
I am making jello shots for our tailgate party this weekend; never considered Everclear! But I'm sticking to vodka. Have had them with the whip cream, it is good.
 #24627
 Julie (Iowa) replies:
I personally dont care for the taste or effect of everclear. I prefer a fruitier taste. If you buy watermelon jello look for a watermelon pucker. At one time I could buy green apple jello, which I can no longer find and mixed it with green apple pucker. YUMMY!!!!
 #126785
 Sarah (Maryland) replies:
I can not believe everyone bashing everclear. Try responsibility?! If you can't limit yourself then don't drink it.
 #133591
 Cd11781 (Illinois) replies:
I had it with everclear, it was much better!! And no one got hurt to those who have opinions.
 #152339
 Brittany (Louisiana) replies:
Nothing wrong with Everclear if you are responsible. It's about twice as strong as vodka, so a little goes a long ways. If you'd rather get buzzed off of a few drinks rather than a lot, Everclear is the affordable way to go. 2 shots of Everclear (mixed with lemonade or something... definitely not solo) makes me feel like I drank 5 shots of vodka... and it's cheaper!
   #158618
 Nichole (Texas) replies:
I just make some Jell-O shots with Everclear using the 1:1 ratio and they came out perfect!! I even mixed vodka in with some! They came out perfect!!
 #171623
 Lisa Young (Georgia) replies:
Beware of the Everclear. 190 proof. Be careful.
 #177342
 Rock (Texas) replies:
Not to be a geek, but Everclear is pure ethanol, at 180 proof. It is used as an industrial solvent (makes a great degreaser) and in various chemical processes. Denatured alchohol is basically the same thing, but they add gasoline to it to make it undrinkable.

Everclear is a cheap drunk, because it doesn't take much to get hammered. It is, however, dangerous stuff to consume. I have seen folks sent to the ER after drinking it, and some of them died. Their appears to be a fine line between a pleasantly high dose and a lethal one, so it pays to be careful.

Good luck putting the stuff in jello shots.

How many shots does this recipe make? I'm going to use 1 oz. plastic cups (I think!)
 #13835

Maybe 2 oz. cups but 1 oz. would be very small. I bought 1.5 oz. cups and I'm concerned about them being too small.

 Thelma (Georgia) replies:
This recipe is in total of:

46 oz of liquid/1oz cup = 46 shots
46oz/2oz cup= 23 shots

I am going to make them for first time (I tasted before) and I will use a flavored Absolute vodka and same flavor for the Jello :)

 Patty says:
Use any flavor rums or vodkas with a mixture of berry jellos... Malibu Rum with Island Pineapple jello is awesome in the summer. Two 3 oz. boxes of jello and use a 9x13 pan and get a couple of spoons and dig in... good times!
 #15706
 Ashley says:
I once used this seasonal margarita jello and tequilla but if you cant find margarita jello I bet lime or lemon would work as good one small cup jello I used 1/2 cup tequilla. 1 1/2 cup water or for stronger ones use 2/3 cup tequilla and 1 1/3 cup water. Rule of thumb always have 2 cups liquid but if you go over a cup liquor than they either will take forever to set or wont set at all depending on the type of alcohol.
 #18030
 Sheila says:
What always works best for me (and my guests love it) is using Grape jello and Grape Pucker, Apple pucker with Lime jello, any of the flavored Pucker drinks and match it with a jello flavor. You follow the directions on the box, but instead of the "cold water" measurements, use the Pucker instead. Mine always turn out great!

 Diamond (Washington) says:
Ok were do you purchase 2 oz plastic cups at i have looked everywhere for some i love making jello shots but i never have the right size plastic cups.
 #21256
 Amanda (Texas) replies:
Diamond, I used to go to Taco Beuno and would offer them for a package of solo cups... they had maybe 500 in one package give or take, but enough to cover a few parties when I was in college, so plenty to go around and then some. I dont know if they would still do it, it might depend on the store, but I am sure you could go to Costco and get them as they cater to small businesses that may need them, or I know wal-mart has small cups in their paper plates/cups section and they have very small cups that work just fine too. And if all else fails, make them in regular cups and then once jelloed (sp?) work the jello out and serve them with out cups, I have seen them served that way before to and no one seemed to mind! Also a little side note to the discussion of vodka vs. everclear, Vodka is so much more responsible and safe, drinking should be done for fun but not to get wasted, stick with vodka!

 Cooks.com replies:
I get my plastic cups at restaurant supply stores. They sell the covers separately, but they are handy for avoiding spills.

Otherwise, you can also use the tiny plastic Dixie cups that are 1 or 2 oz. Another way to make them is in silicone baking cups like those used for muffins.

Silicone ice cube trays are good for the purpose. Pop them out of the ice cube tray and pile them into a plastic cocktail glass and sit them in a tray of shaved or cracked ice with candles in between to light up the Jello.

Wilton's has silicone brownie molds that are small squares, too (you can also get silicone pinch cups at Target that are around the size and shape of half an egg).

Clear plastic drink glasses (or even fancy cocktail glasses) can be used, then serve with a twist of lemon garnish or top with rum-flavored whipped cream!

Happy New Year!

 StacyL21 (Texas) replies:
We make jello shots for pretty much any "party occasion" and always make them with vodka. The best flavors with the vodka to us are the strawberry, berry blue, and lime. These flavors seem to mask the burn of the vodka. I too, would stick to vodka as everclear is very strong and deadly. We buy our cups at a restaurant supply store as well, and usually make close to 500 at a time. Where we get the a pack of 125 is like 2 dollars and the lids cost the same, because they are sold separately. We use the 1 ounce size, and have never had any complaints about the size of the shot. If you are paying for all of the stuff to make them, and no one is chipping in on expenses you have complete say in what size you use!!! Happy New Year to you all!!! Be SAFE!!!

I find the cups at Sams Club. I can't remember the price because you get so many it takes a while to use them all unless you are having a REALLY big party. Also didn't see anyone mention it, but the Watermelon jello makes yummy jello shots!

Try a medical supply store for 2 oz. cups. The medicine cups work well.
 #22124
 Sharon (Maine) replies:
The cups used for jello shots can be purchased from a medical supply store for a couple bucks also. That's where I get mine. Our favorite kinds here are island pineapple with a coconut rum, and the strawberry daiquiri jello with plain rum. When we have a party having the jello shots I usually make some orange and purple (non-alcoholic) ones for the kids and give them plastic spoons with theirs. They love them.

 Crystal (United States) replies:
We use 30cc syringes for our jello shots... they work great and are reuseable!! They can be found at a medical supply store. They are kinda pricey but if you make them alot you actually save money in the long run!
 #24174
 Maryetta (Missouri) replies:
You can go to a medical store and buy the extra large syringe. When you use it just push on the plunger of the syringe and then shoot them in your mouth...a lot of fun and you can use the syringe over and over again. Just wash them and refill them.

 Terri (British Columbia) replies:
I make jello shooters all the time and have tried many of the combinations listed above. I prefer white rum or flavoured vodka. I just use the medical-cups which I purchase from a medical store. If you don't have time to make jello shooters you can also soak gummy bears and any other gummy candies. Rum and coke bottles are good. The gummy bears soak up booze and plump up. Raspberry Sour Puss works great for these. You can get creative in your combinations. Only soak for about 3-4 hours, you may need to add more booze as it soaks up quickly. If you soak overnight they may suck up all the booze and gel together. Serve in a medical-cup with a toothpick. Enjoy!

I like peach scnapps with orange jello! Disolve jello in 1 cup hot water, let that cool a little bit then add 1 cup peach schnapps and chill. Its fun just use your imagination. Mix and match what ever sounds good. Just stick to this basic idea and they usually turn out fine.
