BUTTERMILK BISCUITS
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tbsp. sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. real butter, chilled
1 c. buttermilk

Heat oven to 450 degrees. In bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda. With a pastry blender cut in butter until consistency of coarse crumbs. Add buttermilk and stir to mix. Turn onto a lightly floured board or pastry cloth and knead 3 or 4 times. Roll or pat 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. (I prefer 3/4 inch thick.) Cut with a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter dipped in flour.

Bake on ungreased baking sheet for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter when they come out of the oven.
