RITA'S HAM AND LENTIL SOUP 
1 c. lentils
8 c. boiling water
1 meaty ham bone (or dice up a bunch of leftover ham, about 2 c.)
1 sm. onion, chopped
1/4 c. carrot, diced
1/4 c. celery, diced
1/4 c. barley
1/4 c. brown rice
Salt and pepper and garlic to taste

Combine all ingredients and simmer at least 3 hours.
