CANDY CANE COOKIES 
1 c. of 1/2 soft shortening & 1/2 butter
1 c. Confectioners' sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. red food color

Mix thoroughly the shortening, sugar, eggs almond extract and vanilla. Sift flour and salt together, stir in with other ingredients. Divide dough in half. Blend food coloring into one of the halves of the dough. Roll one teaspoon of each color dough into 4" strips in length. Twist strips of the two colors together, like a rope. Curve end down to form a cane. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet (leave gap between cookies). Bake for 9 minutes or until lightly brown; in preheated oven of 375 degrees. Remove with spatula from sheet while warm and sprinkle with frosting.

Frosting - 3/4 cup of crushed peppermint candy and one cup of sugar.
