OATMEAL SCHOOLBOX COOKIES 
4 tbsp. butter, softened
4 tbsp. vegetable oil
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. whole wheat flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 c. wheat germ
1 1/2 c. rolled oats
3/4 c. raisins
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Mix together butter, oil and sugar. Beat in egg, vanilla and salt; beat well. Stir flour, baking powder, wheat germ and rolled oats together with a fork. Combine with raisins, nuts and wet ingredients, adding a tablespoon of water if necessary to hold the mixture together.

Drop by tablespoon on greased cookie sheets. Flatten slightly and bake at 375 degrees 10 to 12 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Makes 3 dozen.
