ANNIE'S SODA BREAD | |
Tastes better when served 1 to 2 days later. 4 cups sifted flour 3/4 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 4 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. caraway seeds 1 cup raisins 1 egg 1 cup milk Blend together flour and shortening. Add sugar, salt, baking powder, seeds and raisins. Beat egg with milk. Add to make a soft dough. Mix well. Turn out onto a floured board. Knead lightly. Form into 2 or 3 round loaves and place on greased and floured pie pan. Bake at 450°F for 5 minutes. Reduce to 400°F for 10 minutes. Reduce to 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool on wire rack. Store at room temperature in a tin or wrapped in waxed paper. Submitted by: Annie Bryant |
