SPECIAL OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. flavoring
3 c. oatmeal
1 c. pecans (optional)

Combine first 5 ingredients; set aside. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy; beat in eggs and flavoring. Add flour mixture, mixing well. Stir in oats and pecans. Shape into 1 inch balls and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees. Makes about 5 dozen.
