BACON WEAVE | |
A fancy-schmancy "woven" square of bacon to add to your BLT or breakfast sandwiches, as well as to burgers. The best part is, you'll be getting that fabulous bacon flavor in every delicious bite! 1 (16 oz.) pkg. thick-cut bacon slices (Smithfield, Hormel) Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Cut bacon slices in half crosswise and lay three pieces parallel (close together with no gaps) on the baking sheet. (You'll be using 6 half-strips of bacon (3 full slices) per weave.) Fold down the center piece about two inches. Place another half strip of bacon horizontally across the middle, then flip the folded bacon strip upward and back into place. Repeat the process with the top and bottom, alternating flipping the strips to create a "weave". (Similar method as when making a lattice-topped pie crust, and your finished weave should resemble a woven potholder.) Repeat process with remaining half-strips of bacon. You should end up with at least 4 weaves, though you may get 5 depending on how many bacon strips are in the package. Bake the weaves for 30 minutes. Remove the weaves from the oven. Using a wide spatula, transfer each weave to your sandwich of choice, or simply enjoy as an addition to a breakfast or luncheon plate. NOTE: If you'd prefer bigger weaves, use 4 full strips of bacon (8 half slices) per weave. Submitted by: Carol |
