GRANDMA'S SUGAR COOKIES | |
5 c. flour 3 tbsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 c. soft butter 2 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 c. milk Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease 2 cookie sheets. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and nutmeg in bowl. Mix ingredients well; set aside. Combine butter, sugar and vanilla in large bowl. Mix ingredients on medium for 2 minutes with electric mixer, or mix by hand until smooth and fluffy. Add flour mixture in small amounts, (about 1 cup at a time), and combine by hand or with bread attachment on mixer. Continue to add flour mixture until all 5 cups have been added. 1/2 cup milk may be used to help combine mixture as it becomes stiff. Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut with floured cookie cutters. Place on greased cookie sheets and sprinkle with sugar. Cook 6 to 8 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 5 dozen cookies. (If soft cookies are desired, roll dough 1/4 inch thick and remove from oven at first sign of browning.) |
