ORANGE NUT BREAD 
Juice of 1 orange
Boiling water
1 c. dates and orange rind
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. soft shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, beaten
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Squeeze orange and add enough boiling water to make 1 cup. Put orange rind through food chopper; add dates to make 1 cup. Place these 2 mixtures in bowl and add soda, salt, sugar, shortening, and vanilla. Add egg, then flour mixed with salt and baking powder. Add nuts. Mix well and bake in well greased bread pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Invert on rack and let cool.
