JOHNNY BREAD (CORN BREAD) 
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening or butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 c. sour milk or buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. yellow cornmeal
1 c. flour

Mix sugar, shortening and egg. Add milk, salt, soda, cornmeal and flour. Stir until smooth (like heavy cake mix). Bake in 8 x 8 inch or 9 x 9 inch oiled pan or casserole at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
