MARLA'S GERMAN CHOCOLATE LAYER
BARS
 
1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
3/4 c. butter
2/3 c. evaporated milk
1 c. coarsely chopped nuts
14 oz. pkg. light caramels
16 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
Shortening & flour for preparing lg. baking pan

Combine cake mix, butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and nuts. Press 1/2 of mixture into pan and bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Melt caramels with 1/3 cup evaporated milk and spread over cake, sprinkle with chocolate chips and spread rest of cake mixture over chips. Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Cut when cool. Refrigerate in warm weather. Is really better after being refrigerated overnight.
