MOUTH WATERING SUPER EASY POT
ROAST

1 pot roast that fits your slow-cooker
1 can Cola "classic"
1 envelope of Lipton's Onion Soup Mix

Place a 3-4 lb pot roast in slow-cooker (or large enough to fit the size of slow cooker you will be using).

Pour half an envelope of Lipton Onion Soup mix over the roast. Pour the entire can of cola over roast, and then top with remainder of soup mix.

Set slow cooker on high and cook for 4 hours. Turn pot roast over about half way through cooking time.

The meat falls apart - it's so moist! YUM!!!

Tristan, how did your roast turn out. Recipe sounds good and it really seems easy. Just wondering about that can of Coke!

 Tristan replies:
Ok, the coke really works... gave it some really good flavor however don't use the drippings to make gravy (I found it way too sweet). Also, I cooked mine for 4-1/2 hours and it seemed a little too done... less time is needed, use a meat thermometer and get it just right (probably would have been perfect at about 3-1/2 to 4 hours).

Great easy recipe. Very pleasant tasting. My kids really liked this one and loved the quartered potatoes that cooked to perfection below the roast in the same pot. I set it low in the morning before I left for work and came home 6 hours later to the perfect dinner.

Wonder what it would be like if instead of coke you used a can of beer. Hmmm....

I used a can of Miller Lite instead of a can of Coke and it worked out great. I used the au jus of the roast (after it was done cooking) to make a stroganoff-style sauce with baby portabellas, heavy cream, Marsala wine, flour & Worcestershire sauce. I cut the roast in pieces and served it over wide egg noodles with the sauce on top. Yum!

I am going to make pot roast in my crock pot on Saturday for the first time. Having company & don't have a pan big enough. I usually make it in a pot on the stove & I brown roast first. I use 1 can of beer & 1 envelope of Liptons dry onion soup. I also add carrots & potatoes. It makes a very delicious roast.

Use regular coke, not diet. You need the sugar content for success. I have made this many times... delicious! (Let meat set before slicing.)

I used this recipe today after reading the responses. I used Pepsi instead of coke and it came out wonderfully! My husband loved it! I cooked it a day before I served it, so all the meat would be tender and juicy. Kudos for this wonderful recipe.

Has anyone tired Root Beer, Birch Beer or maybe even Cream Soda? I think the Root Beer and Birch would give a nice gingery flavor... I got some pot roast in the fridge and my first (not yet christened) slow cooker. =)

Didn't have the Onion Soup Mix, so I just did salt, pepper, garlic powder (yes, I still have the powder in my cupboard, and in a slow cooker recipe it works just as good as fresh). Seared the roast first in a frying pan, added a finely-chopped medium onion to the slow cooker, and added 12 oz. of Caffeine Free "Cola Classic". Looking forward to the results!

I use dr. pepper instead of coke, and add a can of cream of mushroom soup as well for anyone that wants to try something slightly different. Still tastes awesome.

I used 1 can of cream of mushroom soup, plus a half of can of water and a freshly cut up mushroom for the top. Then cut up some carrots and potatoes for a New England twist during our hearty winter. It's awesome and comfort food.
