BOSTON BROWN BREAD 
2 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped nuts
2 c. boiling water
1 3/4 c. sugar
1/3 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. flour

Combine dates, soda, nuts and water let stand few minutes. Cream sugar, shortening, eggs, salt, vanilla and flour. Add date mixture. Bake at 350 degrees about 1 hour. Can be baked in tin cans or bread pans. Fill half full.
