ORANGE SLICE CANDY CAKE 
3 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1 lb. orange slice candy
2 c. chopped walnuts
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
4 oz. can flake coconut
1 c. shortening
1 pkg. chopped dates
1 c. orange juice
1 c. sugar

Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and buttermilk. Add flour; mix well. Fold in dates, coconut, nuts and candy. (Chop candy in small pieces.) Pour into large tube pan and bake 1 hour and 45 minutes at 300 degrees. When done, remove from oven and pour over cake in pan 1 cup orange juice and 1 cup sugar. Refrigerate overnight before removing from pan.
