ORANGE SLICE CANDY CAKE 
3 1/2 c. plain flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 lb. orange candy slices, cut up
1 lb. dates, chopped
1 c. orange juice
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. buttermilk
4 eggs
1 c. butter
1 c. pecans, chopped
1 can flaked coconut

Sift together flour and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. Combine candy, dates, nuts and coconut. Add 1/2 cup flour and mix well. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Add 1 teaspoon baking soda to buttermilk. Add flour and buttermilk alternately. Add candy mixture and mix well.

Bake in tube pan that has been greased and floured. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 45 minutes or until done (light brown). As soon as cake comes out of oven, pour 1 cup orange juice mixed well with 1 cup sugar over hot cake. Leave cake in pan and refrigerate overnight. To remove from pan, put in hot water 5 minutes. Refrigerate.
