GRAVY BAKED PORK CHOPS
4 lean pork chops (1/2 to 3/4-inch thickness)
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
pinch of garlic powder
1 large onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp. butter, melted
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
2/3 cup evaporated milk (1 small can)
1/3 cup water

For easy preparation, choose a skillet with an oven proof handle (like a cast iron pan).

Sprinkle pork chops with salt, pepper and garlic powder.

On the stove top over medium high heat, brown the pork chops and onion in a skillet with butter. Add garlic after first side is browned (do not allow the garlic to become dark).

Turn to brown both sides of the pork chops. Pour off any excess butter after pork chops are browned. The pork chops don't need to be cooked through because they will be finished in the oven.

Combine soup, evaporated milk (not sweetened condensed milk!) and water. Pour mixture around pork chops.

Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for about 45 minutes, stirring now and then.

Note: Instead of baking the pork chops in the oven, if you have a tightly fitting heavy cover for the skillet, they can be finished on the stove top for 45 minutes.

Taste and adjust seasonings before serving.

Variations: Sliced mushrooms may be added to the gravy. Cream of Celery soup may be substituted for the Cream of Mushroom.

Makes 4 servings.

Excellent dinner tonight. I prepared a bit different due to not having everything in recipe. I fried some onion in butter and olive oil before putting the seasoned pork chops in pan. I also used 1 can cream of mushroom soup and two thirds can of milk. Cooked on top of stove, covered for about an hour. was delicious. I used pork seasoning rub on the chops. Served with mashed potatoes and peas. Was absolutely delicious.

I served the chops with fried potatoes mixed with red and orange pepper strips and onions. I sauted the peppers and onions separately and then turned them through the potatoes. The combination got raves.

Quick and easy! My mouth was watering before I added the sauce! I used garlic powder instead of real garlic but I used garlic cream of mushroom soup. This was very yummy!! Served over rice.

I love this recipe and have made it several times. The gravy turns out delicious and tastes good with mashed potatoes or rice. I cook it once a month and have even made it with chicken. I have used both oven and stove methods but like being able to stir while on stove top.

Loved this recipe. Family loved it last time I made it! Easy to make and fast (Wife and I work different shifts/hours so we switch cooking and this is a great meal to make). I'm going to try cream of celery this time because the daughter doesnt like mushrooms.

I made this tonight and I used the Golden Mushroom Soup instead of Cream of Mushroom. I also added fresh mushrooms after the gravy was simmering and it was very good. I served with rice but I think mashed potatoes would of been a better choice with the tasty gravy instead. I didn't bake in oven, I cooked low on stove top and my pork chops were very tender. This is another keeper for me and will make this again!
