FRIED CABBAGE AND NOODLES
1 head of cabbage
1 box of elbow noodles
butter

Cut up head of cabbage and saute in butter in skillet. Reduce heat and continue to cook slowly. Meanwhile, in a large pot of salted boiling water, prepare 1 box of elbow macaroni according to package directions.

Once noodles are done and the cabbage is soft, drain the noodles and mix with the buttered cabbage.

Cover and let simmer on low for about 15 minutes.

This is a very old recipe that tastes fantastic. You can almost eat the whole thing yourself. Enjoy!!!

Fried Cabbage and Noodles

I make this recipe when we have burgers on the grill in the summer. We call it cabbage noodles and my 8 year old granddaughter loves it and requests it every Sunday. I steam the cabbage until tender and then add the butter and fry it. I use kluski noodles and boil them in chicken broth. When the cabbage is done frying I add the noodles and fry on low heat until dinner is ready. Voila! What a hit!

I made this tonite and it was delightful. Added a bit of chicken stock and seemed to be just right when added to egg noodles.

Been making this for many years, try adding a little chicken bouillon & broth when you add the butter. Love it!

I make this same recipe with the exception, I cook the cabbage with a medium onion and use egg noodles in place of the elbow.

I've been making this for years - but without some additions, the recipe as posted falls a little flat. We always add sliced green olives, thinly sliced onions and sweet peppers. We also moisten the mixture a little (if necessary) with a little chicken broth. The olives add some salt to the dish - all you need after that is some coarsely ground pepper. Great vegetarian meal!

I started out by frying chopped up bacon and onion in a huge skillet... drained most of the grease off, added the sliced cabbage, some smashed garlic, black pepper and a little sugar. Meanwhile, I made some homemade egg noodles, cooked them until almost done in chicken broth... then drained and added them to the cabbage. It's cooking down now; smells WONDERFUL... and I'm thinking about adding a few diced up fresh tomatoes I have on hand... Even if you don't think this dish will taste good...make it at least once! It's a keeper for my house!

I make something similar - more like a stir-fry. I saute onions in bacon grease, add garlic, shredded cabbage, sliced carrots and pork/chicken/sliced steak. I add a little water, cornstarch, boullion, and soy, then toss with angel hair pasta. Sometimes I use broccoli instead of cabbage. It's a great way to use up leftovers.

I just saw this and am delighted! When I was in high school (yes it was back before they invented wheel) my girlfriends mother fixed for dinner. I did not see her prepare it but thought it was great. I've asked people over the years and no one had heard of. On my way to store! tyvm

This is indeed an old recipe! My mom and I would make this all the time. I would saute the cabbage in butter and olive oil with minced garlic!!

Add a bouillion cube to the water before boiling the cabbage. This is the best weight-loss dish if you cut down on the noodles. With a vegetable peeler "shave" a few strips of carrots into the pot - makes it more attractive. Add a few sprinkles of fresh lemon juice. -

Wonderful recipe, and great ideas to change it up. I used leftover ham, then added a little Apricot Jam! I've had apricot jam with chicken, and next time I may try chicken and apricot jam with this dish! I wonder what a little cream of chicken soup would do for this (without the apricot jam, of course)!
