GRANDMA'S WHITE BREAD
2 c. milk
2 tbsp. salt (level)
2 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. shortening
1/2 cake yeast
Approximately 7-9 c. flour

Put first four ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat; bring to a boil. Remove from stove and add enough water to make luke warm. Add in yeast (crumble to dissolve).

Put mixture in a large bowl and add 4 cups of flour; mix well with a spoon. Continue adding flour until dough-like consistency.

Place dough on floured surface and knead approximately 7-10 minutes until dough is smooth and soft. Put dough in a large greased bowl, spread top of dough lightly with butter; cover and let rise until almost tripled in size.

Punch down and let rise again. Mold into bread loaves and place in greased loaf pans; let rise. Bake at 350 degrees 30-35 minutes until golden brown. Makes 3 loaves.
