CHOCOLATE FUDGE UPSIDE-DOWN CAKE
3/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. milk
1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. cocoa
1 1/2 c. boiling water

Cream together 3/4 cup sugar and butter; stir in milk. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and 2 tablespoons cocoa and add to creamed mixture. Mix until smooth and then stir in walnuts. Spread in buttered 9" square pan.

In a small bowl, mix well 1/2 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar and 1/3 cup cocoa. Sprinkle over the batter. Then pour boiling water over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. The cake part rises to the top; the boiling water joins the sugar and cocoa to make a rich syrup underneath. Especially good served hot with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
