HOT MILK SPONGE CAKE 
Scald and set aside the following:

3/4 cup milk
2 to 4 tbsp. butter

Beat until very thick and creamy the following:

1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt

Add 2 cups flour and 2 teaspoons baking powder.

Mix well. Then add hot milk all at once. Mix well, but do not overbeat to prevent cake from becoming tough. Batter will be thin.

Immediately pour into 2 (9 inch) greased and floured cake pans.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
