SHEPHERDS PIE (MY AMERICAN, CHEAP VERSION) | |
This is in no way a traditional recipe. It's cheap to make and very tasty. I have people that will come over just because they know I'm making it. Very fattening but delicious. Put your own twist on it! 2 lb. ground beef (turkey or whatever you prefer) 1 large can mixed vegetables 2 small cans gravy 4 or 5 large Yukon Gold potatoes (butter, milk and dairy sour cream to taste) garlic (fresh or powdered) 1 lb. shredded cheese of your choice Preheat oven to 350°F. Peel, chop and boil potatoes. Drain and mash using milk and sour cream then set aside. Cook beef and season to taste using garlic at this time. Drain beef and add gravy coating thickly. In a casserole, put beef and gravy mixture layered on the bottom. Open and drain the mixed vegetables (I prefer Veg-all) then layer them, salting lightly. Now layer the mashed potatoes, spreading evenly. Add the cheese on top. Bake for 20-30 minutes. You'll start to see the gravy boiling up the sides and the cheese will be melted. Serves 4 to 6.
