SHEPHERD'S PIE | |
1/4 lb. or more fresh mushrooms, thinly sliced 1 tbsp. butter 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef, pork, lamb or combination 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 onion, chopped 1 cup fresh bread crumbs 1 egg 2 tbsp. ketchup 1 tbsp. soy sauce 1 tsp. dry mustard or 1 tbsp. prepared mustard 1/4 tsp. (pinch) salt (optional) 1/2 tsp. black pepper Mashed potatoes ![]() In a large bowl, combine onions (with their juice) and ground meat. Season with salt and pepper. Mix gently with bread crumbs, egg, ketchup, soy sauce, and mustard. Prepare mashed potatoes with cream and butter; put through a potato ricer or mash/beat until smooth (do not use a food processor). Transfer mixture to baking pan or ovenproof casserole and top with mashed potatoes, well-buttered, about one half inch thick (or more). Bake for one hour in a preheated 350°F degree oven. Potato topping should be crisp and golden on top; raise temperature for the last ten minutes if necessary. Makes 4-6 Servings. |
