APPLE ALMOND CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
Butter
1/2 c. slivered almonds
1 egg
2 tsp. almond flavoring
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. baking powder
3 c. sliced apples

Combine 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup butter, and almonds. Blend together until crumbly (set aside). Beat egg slightly; add: Remaining sugar, milk, almond flavoring, and 2 tablespoons butter. Sift remaining flour, salt, and baking powder. Fold into egg mixture. Pour into a greased 9 x 12 inch pan. Arrange apple slices over batter. Sprinkle apples with almond mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
