OLD-FASHIONED BISCUITS
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. buttermilk

Mix flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar in mixing bowl. Cut butter in mixture until resembles coarse crumbs. With fork, stir in buttermilk to make a soft dough. Turn out onto lightly floured board and knead about 10 times to form a smooth ball.

Do not over knead or biscuits will be not tender. Roll to a 6 x 6 inch square. Place on ungreased baking sheet. With knife, cut dough into 12 portions. Do not separate, leave biscuits in a square. Bake at 400 degrees until golden, about 15 minutes. Makes 12 biscuits.
