I plan to use this recipe in the near future, but I will add a can of cherry pie filling before baking.

First time baking a cake from scratch, it was super easy. It didn't take any longer than a box cake and I got to see everything ingredient wise that went into it. I used caramel cocoa and butter in place of shortening. It had to bake for 40 mins instead of 35, but it turned out so moist that it was hard to frost lol. 5 star review for sure, will absolutely make this again!

I made this cake today. I used organic cocoa, and I increased the flour by 1/3 cup because it seemed a bit liquid-y. I also substituted the shortening with Apple Sauce and I added an extra tsp. as well and one tsp. sea salt. I brushed strawberry preserves over it and used cream cheese frosting. It's my daughter's birthday today and I'm going to surprise her when she gets home. Thank you for this easy and delish recipe.

I used some vanilla extract in this. But it definitely is taking longer than 35 minutes to bake. Almost 50 for me... taste good so far after testing it. :)

Good cake. Easy to make. Iced the cake with this tried and true recipe for chocolate icing. Heat 6 tbsp. of evaporated milk, 4 tbsp. cocoa, 1 stick of real butter in a pan heat on med-low until it just begins to bubble. Remove from heat, stir in 1 tsp of vanilla. Mix together with 1 box of powdered sugar (sifted) until smooth. (You can also mix in 1/2 to 1 cup of chopped pecans if you like nuts in icing.) Spread while cake is still warm. Great on this cake!

I used 3 eggs and added some raw honey and vanilla extract to make it extra moist and spongy. It is in the oven. I hope I do the icing justice, I always botch the icing.

This is a great recipe to make with your kids. It's easy and fun to make. However I think using Heated Milk instead of Water is better, and leaves it with more moist. Also added another Egg so it would cook because it wasn't cooking correctly. Overall the recipe is great, I'd love to see more.
